<div itemprop="description">WHITMAN, DOUGLAS: The family of Douglas Hume Whitman of St. Catharines is deeply saddened to announce his passing at the Greater Niagara General Hospital on Tuesday, January 12, 2016. Doug was 83 years old. With heavy hearts, we take comfort in celebrating this generous and loving man; his devotion to his family, especially as a great Bompa to his grandchildren; his love of sport and recreation, as an avid tennis player, golfer, skier, and angler; his skilled woodworking and craftsmanship; and his enthusiasm for working with old cars and electronic gadgets. An electrical engineer by trade, Doug relished the company and friendship of longtime colleagues from his days at Monenco Engineering. Doug was born in Canso, Nova Scotia, in 1932, and grew up in nearby Hazel Hill. A Maritimer at heart, Doug returned home every year to camp and fish at Lake Cooeycoff as a lifetime member of the Eastern Angling Club. Doug will be greatly missed by his wife, Audrey Black Whitman; his daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Michael Kelly; his son Stewart; his stepdaughter and son-in-law, Georgina Black and Bill Watson; his stepson and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Dorothy Hall; his grandchildren, Harper, Paige, Andrew, Jack, and Jamie; his brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Fran Whitman; and many other in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Doug is predeceased by his first wife, Doris Stewart, and his sister, Joan Tingley. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Doug&rsquo;s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.</div>
